Infrared Contact Lenses
Ever wish you had super powers? Technology could now give them to you! Well, not laser eyes or super strength (yet), but definitely something that could give you an edge… like see in the dark with new infrared contact lenses!
Don’t worry. They’re safe.
These lenses were developed in collaboration between neuroscientists and material scientists who developed nanoparticles which convert infrared light into visible light. They then applied those nanoparticles to contact like lenses. When humans use them, they can detect infrared light in blue, green, and red. Even through their own eyelids!
These lenses are still in development and definitely not available for commercial, so no idea on a possible cost. But cost will definitely be a factor in the use of these innovative items. Will this become like the cell phone, a device everyone has as a part of their everyday carry? Or will they be reserved for the use of law enforcement and the military? Will they be novelty accoutrements of the rich?
Answering these questions as part of your world building can add flavor to a futuristic society or even be a key clue in a cosmic whodunit.
